JBT Open Success

JBT Open Success

After a long wait and despite the difficulties imposed by the current restrictions Strathpeffer Spa Golf Club was proud to have been able to host its first Men’s Open Event for 2020.

It was held on the best day we have had in quite a while, the sun shone all day allowing the competitors to soak in the ambience of the beautifully presented course and the fine views. It was sponsored by Mike Beveridge of JBT whom we thank for his support and commitment to the event.

It’s all in the preparation

Much work had gone into preparing the course for the event and Greenskeeper Luke Manson with help from James and Dod Krzyzanowski and a team of willing volunteers all ably led by Stan Krzyzanowski are, once again, to be commended for the condition of the course. Particular attention had been paid in preparing the greens prior to the event which, coupled with the dry weather, were ‘lightening fast’ and commended by all the players.

The course’s reputation had obviously spread far and wide which resulted in the event being supported by over 100 competitors coming from both local clubs and further afield including Fort William, Brora and Carlisle.

Results

The feedback of the course was excellent, even from accustomed links golfers, with some superb scores being recorded although some did not have so much luck and found it hard to get going. We commiserate with them and applaud the victors on this occasion. Despite the spirited challenges from the away visitors, in the end it was our local ‘boys’ who triumphed.

The winner of the scratch event was our previous greenkeeper Kevin Bartlett (66) with Runner up being Gary Ross (68) and in Third place was Craig Morrison (69).

In the handicap event the winner was Connor MacGregor (82 – 23 = 59) with Runner Up Iain McCall (74- 13 = 61) and in Third Place Michael Macnab (70 – 6 = 64).

Supporting Cast

Those organising the event and the supporting cast on the day had a long stint starting at an early hour and not leaving until early evening, a mammoth task and their efforts and hard work is appreciated by all.

We would like to thank all the participants for complying with the necessary clubhouse restrictions and for adhering to the Playing Conditions implemented for the event which helped enormously to make the day go smoothly.

A successful day all round and we look forward to more Opens before the end of the season which unfortunately is rapidly approaching.
